PVDF Pneumatic Butterfly Valve
The Huiya PVDF pneumatic butterfly valve gives compact, automated isolation and flow control on large-bore lines carrying the most aggressive media. With a virgin-PVDF body and disc rated to 120°C, it resists concentrated acids, halogens and solvents, while the wafer design keeps weight and cost far below a solid PVDF ball valve on big diameters — and it can throttle as well as isolate.

Butterfly or Ball Valve? When PVDF Butterfly Wins
Choose a PVDF butterfly valve when your project meets these conditions.
Large diameter (≥ DN100 / 4″). A solid PVDF flanged ball valve at 4″+ becomes extremely heavy and expensive — it needs a huge mass of fluoropolymer. A PVDF wafer butterfly is compact, light and far more cost-effective for large-bore chemical isolation.
Tight installation space. A wafer body’s face-to-face dimension is a fraction of a ball valve’s — ideal for compact piping skids, filtration towers and reactor manifolds.
Lower automation cost. Turning a massive 8″ PVDF ball needs a large, costly actuator. A butterfly disc turns at much lower torque, so you can downsize the actuator and cut automation cost.
The exception: if the fluid carries abrasive solids (slurries) or you need absolutely zero pressure drop, stay with a full-port PVDF ball valve — the butterfly disc sits in the flow path.
Can a PVDF Butterfly Valve Throttle Flow?
Yes — unlike a ball valve, which is built for strict on/off isolation, a PVDF butterfly valve can modulate the flow of corrosive media, provided it is configured correctly.
Open between 30° and 70°. Throttle only in this band. Below 30°, high-velocity flow causes cavitation and premature seat wear; above 70°, the valve loses linear control.
Upgrade the operator. For manual throttling, use a worm-gear operator or notch plate — a bare lever can’t hold the disc steady against the flow. For automated throttling, fit a modulating actuator with an electro-pneumatic positioner (e.g. 4–20 mA).
Low-pressure systems. Throttling suits low-pressure chemical circulation, cooling-water loops and gravity-fed drains.
We supply PVDF butterfly valves pre-integrated with 4–20 mA smart positioners, ready to drop straight into your DCS/PLC.
Chemical Resistance
Virgin PVDF resists 98% and fuming sulfuric, 70% nitric, hydrofluoric acid, aqua regia, halogens and aromatic/chlorinated solvents up to 120°C; not suitable for ketones (acetone), THF, ethers or strong amines. Seat choice matters: EPDM for hot alkalis, FKM for strong acids and oxidisers — see our PVDF Chemical Resistance Guide.
Applications
Large-bore cooling-water and chemical-circulation loops; scrubber and chlor-alkali lines; oxidiser and dilute-acid transfer; large drains and gravity lines; any big-bore corrosive duty where a ball valve would be too heavy and costly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Butterfly or ball valve?
Butterfly for DN100+ large bores, tight space and lower actuator cost; ball valve for slurries or zero-pressure-drop full-bore flow.
Can it really throttle corrosive media?
Yes — between 30° and 70° opening, with a gear operator or a 4–20 mA modulating positioner. Not for high-pressure throttling.
EPDM or FKM seat?
EPDM for hot alkalis and polar media; FKM for strong acids, oxidisers and halogens. Tell us your media and we specify it.
Wafer or lug body?
Both available — lug lets you isolate or dead-end one side of the line.
Why Buy from Huiya
Two virgin-PVDF grades (never recycled) · MTR on request · media-matched seat · pre-integrated 4–20 mA positioners available · ANSI/DIN/JIS · factory-direct.
For lighter-duty media, the same butterfly valve is made in PVC, CPVC and PPH. When you need bubble-tight isolation or full-bore flow instead, choose the PVDF true union ball valve for serviceable lines or the PVDF flanged ball valve for high-pressure, zero-tolerance media.
